Ski Goggle Testing Highlights Innovative Changes
Dallas, TX (PRWeb) November 22, 2008 -- ADS Sports Eyewear begins each ski season by testing dozens of name brand ski goggles. Favorite ski goggles for the 2008-2009 ski and snowboard season included some very cool technology and some first-timers to the ski goggle market.
The Phenom Turbo from Smith Ski Goggles (http://www.adseyewear.com/results_m/Smith%20Ski%20Goggles.php?mf=18) with the Ignitor Mirror lens scored extremely well for the second year in a row. The Rose Copper dual-spherical lens is optically impressive and the venting is extremely well designed to prevent fogging. But the most impressive feature was the tiny fan that is in all the Smith Turbo Series goggles. This goggle almost never fogged up. On the few occasions when it did fog up the 2-speed fan would clear the entire lens instantly. (This is a very cool feature.)
We were also very impressed with two new goggles from Native Eyewear (http://www.adseyewear.com/results_m/Native%20Eyewear.php?mf=26) that are being released for the first time this ski season. Native quickly became popular making sports sunglasses that are polarized, vented to prevent fogging, and come with 2 sets of interchangeable lenses. Native Ski Goggles have all the same features, including a phenomenal polarized snow lens. The polarization did everything Native said it would do. It eliminated glare; improved contrast; made ice patches much easier to read; and made everything on the mountain clearer. The Native Siege is a good choice for men. The Native Mission fits women best. (That's our opinion. Native sells these as unisex goggles.) Polarization and the inclusion of additional lens made Native goggles the best value.
A welcome surprise this year was the return of the Adidas a136 Elevation ClimaCool. Adidas had pulled this unique product from the market, but apparently customers like us would not let it die. The Adidas a136 is not marketed as a ski goggle, but in less-extreme ski conditions this is the perfect eye protection. A removable foam eye seal allows the a136 to be worn as either ski goggles or as sunglasses. The venting design is one of the best we have ever seen to eliminate fog. The volume of air behind the lens is much less than a traditional goggle and this is not a dual lens. Therefore it is more prone to fogging in extreme cold than a traditional goggle. But these were in huge demand on sunny ski days.
All of these goggles can be made with prescription lenses. Progressive lenses are available, but we usually recommend a small bifocal for people who require a reading add to see a map or menu.
This is the first year ADS Sports Eyewear (http://www.adseyewear.com/) has carried ski helmets. The Smith Ski Helmets (http://www.adseyewear.com/results_m/Smith%20Ski%20Helmets.php?mf=24) have venting that aligns perfectly with the Smith Ski Goggle vents to pull air through the goggle. This patented helmet venting system reduces fogging in the goggle. They also look great.
A link to the complete test results can be found on the ADS Sports Eyewear web site at www.adseyewear.com. Ski goggles and ski helmets are sold online as well as in the store near downtown Dallas at 2613 Elm St. Prescription ski goggles are also available on line.
